Biography.

Experimental Filmmaker/Film Artist Orlagh Heverin is based in County Mayo, Ireland.  Her body of work includes Deoch Dance (Writer/Director/Producer. Short film. 2021), Secret Repetition (Writer. Short film. 2015), Losing Memories (Writer/Director. Short film. RTÉ/Galway Film Centre Short Script Award. 2008) and Memories (Writer/Director/Editor. Short film.1996). 

Orlagh’s work has been screened at numerous film festivals and received a number of awards.

Deoch Dance: Best University Film Austin Revolution Film Festival, Texas, USA (February 9th 2023). Deoch Dance: Best Picture Short Movies Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente de Madrid, Spain (FICIMAD) (June 9th 2022). Best Cinematography Florida Leaders Opening Worlds (FLOW) (May 2022). Best International Experimental Short Film (May 2022) Austin International Art Festival. Best Experimental Film at the Miami Indie Film Awards (6th edition March 2022), and Best Experimental Film at Boston Independent Film Award (February 2022), Deoch Dance was part of Plan C: Whereabouts? exhibition (curated by Ruby Wallis and Michaële Cutaya, 2021) and The Mayo Artist Show (curated by Eamonn Maxwell. 2021/2022).

Losing Memories won the Jury’s prize at the Earwig Arts Festival (2010. Tuam), and the Best Irish production at the International Film Festival Ireland (Clonmel. 2010). Losing Memories was broadcast on RTÉ (Irish national broadcaster. 2011) and was part of the Made of Mayo art exhibition (curated by Patrick T.Murphy. 2018).

Orlagh’s practice is concerned with female sexual trauma, addiction and recovery, memory/loss of memory/traumatic memories and the passage of time. Heverin makes use of strong visual story telling which focuses on the personal but resonates on a universal level. Heverin completed a Master of Arts in Creative Practice at Atlantic Technological University, Galway in 2021.

As a recipient of an Arts Council of Ireland Agility Award (Round 2, 2022) Orlagh completed her current script - The Secret Tree -which is an experimental Poetry Film that centres round female sexual trauma. Thanks to the Agility Award, Orlagh had the opportunity to work with poet Anne Walsh Donnelly in shaping this project. Heverin is currently seeking funding to make this experimental film piece.
